What is Gee-Yaar-Ween Shareef?
Gee-Yaar-Ween Shareef is a spiritual gathering conducted every month in honor of the great Saint, Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilani (may Allah be pleased with him) commemorating his Urs Mubarak, the day his blessed soul passed on to the Divine Presence. Gee-Yaarh-Ween means "eleven" in the Urdu language.

Gee-Yaarh-Ween Shareef at IECRC
Gee-Yaarh-Ween Shareef is held on the 11th of each Islamic month in Fremont and Sacramento. Currently, the event in Fremont is for women and children only. In Sacramento, it is open to all. The purpose of this gathering is to remember the life and teachings of this great Saint in order that we may incorporate them in our lives to become better human beings and better citizens of this nation and of the world. Our precious children and youth learn about the deep Islamic morals and ethics that this great Saint stood for and taught, may Allah (God) be well pleased with him.
The event includes the following:
- Khatm ul-Qur'an (one reading of the entire Qur'an) OR
- Khatm Ya-Sin (reading of the Qur'anic Chapter of Ya-Sin 40 times)
- Na'at-e-Rasul (recitation of poetry honoring the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)
- Ahadith and/or Seerat un-Nabi (sall-Allahu alayhe wasallam) - Reading from the sayings or the biography of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)
- Manqabat Ghaus-e-Aazam (recitation of poetry honoring Shaykh Abdul Qadir - may Allah be pleased with him)
- Readings from the Saint's famous writings/biography/karaamaat
- Salaam, Du'a, Fatiha
- Zikr
- Langar Qadriyya (dinner)
